National Holidays 2012

Knowing all the national holidays 2012 is important especially if you’re a business who is constantly on the go here and there, doing business trips and transactions. Noting the holidays on your calendar early on will help you schedule your meetings, teleconferences or video call conferences ahead of time. It will also help you avoid conflicts in meetings and schedules, and thus will help you maximize both your time and effort.  And if you’re just an average, ordinary citizen, knowing the holidays will help you plan your trips or vacations will your family. Or if when you it is best not to skip work for the double holiday pay.

There are 18 possible luxury holidays all in all in the US this 2012. At the start of the year, the first federal holiday is on January 16 which is a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. And the celebration or memorial of his birthday is a celebration of the man who sacrificed his life in the name of peace and justice.

By February 20 another great name in American History is remembered and he none other than the “Father of the United States of America”, George Washington. This day is also known as President’s Day and in honor of this day, most American companies like Ford, hold sales on this day. Of course, February also means Valentine’s, and though not declared as a federal holiday, it is also a day that most people especially lovers and couples look forward to celebrating. Some of the holidays in April are April Fool’s Day, a day where practical jokes won’t be a criminal offense. For Roman Catholics, April is also a time of meditation, contemplation and fasting during the Holy Week as a preparation for Easter. By May, the dates to remember are May 13 which is Mother’s Day, a chance to thank your mother who has sacrificed much for you; and May 28 which is Memorial Day.

And at this time all Americans are encouraged to pause and offer a moment of prayer or silence at 3:00pm to remember and honor those who have given their lives for the country. If May is a time to remember our mothers, then June 17 is a time to remember our fathers. And by July 4, the whole nation celebrates Independence Day. And this day is traditionally associated with picnics, fireworks, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and family reunions. There are usually parades in the morning, followed by carnivals, park rides and fireworks in the evening. In September 3, Labor Day, which commemorates the labor movements in the US, is celebrated. Although in the past years, Labor Day celebrations and activities which include picnics, carnivals and festivals have strayed from the original essence of why Labor Day is celebrated.

October 8, on the other hand, is Columbus Day and is celebrated as a memorial of Columbus who first discovered the Land of America. And of course there’s Halloween by the end of the month, trick or treating again for children of all ages. November on the other hand is the month for Veterans and for Thanksgiving. There are many Thanksgiving traditions in the US, and this day is a day for expressing thanks and praise for all the blessings received that year. And lastly, December is of course Christmas! It also important to take note that by March 11, 2012, the Daylight Savings Time will begin and will end by November 4, 2012.

There are so many major national holidays for 2012 in America. Well, just thinking about it brings us a smile. Christmas, probably the best holiday of the year in my opinion. Virtually every family sits around and eats and gives away presents. Everyone always seems as happy on this day as the kids are opening a gift they wanted all year, or the tech guy, like me, is opening the new favorite gadget, or, the grandmother is getting a brand new dress.

Christmas is a nationally recognized holiday each year on December 25th. While some Americans only celebrate this holiday as a time of giving, most Christian Americans will celebrate this as a time that Jesus Christ came as our savior. Another major holiday would have to be Thanksgiving. This is the day that citizens of the United States gather with their families for a time of great feasting. The traditional meal includes Turkey. With turkey you will usually find things like mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, and lots of dessert to go around afterwards! Thanksgiving is held each year on the fourth Thursday of November. This year, I will be eating plenty of Turkey on November 27th, 2008.

Independence Day is one of the favorites for the US citizen. Independence Day is a federal holiday in celebration of the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776 from Great Britain. This is probably one of the most important national holidays in existence although many people overlook it as just a time to party. Granted, partying is never a bad thing in my book.  By tradition, Americans will sit outside with kids with adult supervision play with fireworks. Since this has obviously been seen as dangerous, causing injuries and lots of fires, people have decided it would be best to watch professionals do the work. The families will typically go to a local lake or college where pyrotechnic professionals put on huge displays for the public. There is nothing like watching a beautiful finally in a fireworks display.

No US citizen can forget Halloween. Although Halloween is not celebrated by every family, most Christian families simply view this is a time to eat candy. If you have not figured it out yet. Americans love to eat! Kids go to the local neighborhood where closes were close together so that we could quickly run from house to house, knock on the door. The custom is for them to give you a piece of candy to put in your bag. There are still many kids who do this. But it is unfortunate that they need to be selective on which houses and neighborhoods they need to go. As some people feel the need to do stupid things into the candy. Each year, this holiday is held on October 31st.
